PROcap is a new and innovative replacement for the salary cap system currently used by the NRL.
 
Built from the ground up, PROcap addresses the fallabilities and weaknesses of traditional salary-based systems by providing an objective based rating system that doesn't restrict player income.  PROcap uses carefully selected criteria to assign any given player a PROcap rating. 
 
Ratings are simple, quick and easy to apply and use publicly available data, this allows anybody to determine a rating of any player in the NRL. This ultimately means that a fan, a commentator, a coach or even a club CEO may quickly and accurately assess a player rating or entire club rating.
 
Each club is required to nominate a 25 man roster prior to the beginning of each season and the total cumulative points of these 25 players must remain below a pre-set threshold for the entirety of that season.
 
PROcap is a perfomance-based system and does not take player salary into consideration. This allows a fair, transparent and robust solution that allows players (agents) to negotiate a fair salary with their respective clubs while protecting player privacy.  Players will have the ability to earn (including third party payments) to their potential without impacting the PROcap team total. This also allows an official central database of ratings to be publicly available through any Rugby League publication, including magazines, annuals and websites.
 
PROcap removes the need for investigative units, auditors and forensics teams as the system is open, transparent and objective allowing even fans to monitor the cap  system.
 
PROcap is constructed to protect the entire competition from clubs that attempt to 'buy' success (either legitimately or illegally), by rating players based solely on performance.
 
PROcap is built to reward clubs and players that display loyalty and commitment to the long term by:
  • Offering cap breaks for clubs that nurture local youth.
  • Offering cap breaks for long serving players .
  • Offering cap breaks for clubs that roster players over 30 years of age.
